Polar Bear Adventure
Last year I had the incredible experience of seeing polar bears and the Northern Lights in Churchill, Canada. If these are on your bucket list, I highly recommend visiting!
The best time to go is mid-October, before the snow falls and the sea ice forms. Once the landscape is covered in white, it becomes much harder to spot the bears. Each day begins with a ride in a tundra vehicle, where you can explore the Arctic terrain and encounter wildlife like foxes, wolves, and Arctic hares. Spotting a polar bear is a thrilling highlight, giving you a rare glimpse into their behavior in the wild and a reminder of the fragility of their environment and the importance of conservation efforts.
Throughout the trip, knowledgeable guides shared fascinating insights into polar bear behavior and the challenges these majestic animals face. Evenings were spent attending lectures on local culture and traditions, deepening our appreciation for the region. We also went dog sledding and took a helicopter tour to see the bears from above!
Churchill, located near the Arctic Circle, is also renowned for its stunning Northern Lights, which are visible to the naked eye. We had a full night of dancing ribbons of light!
If this type of adventure isn't on your radar, I still encourage you to try an ecotourism trip to places like the Galapagos, Africa, or Antarctica at least once in your life. It’s a transformative experience that reshapes your perspective on our place in the natural world!
